JOHANNESBURG – Eswatini comedian Mdura is preparing to light up the stage at Extreme Comedy on May 27 at Monaco Lounge in Johannesburg, where he is expected to deliver a night packed with Swati humour, storytelling and laughter.
The comedy showcase, hosted by Bexta Ndabalime and featuring Thulani Ntlabathi alongside Mdura, will take place at Maboneng Lifestyle Centre from 8PM until late as comedy lovers gather for one of Johannesburg’s anticipated midweek entertainment events.
Mdura announced the upcoming show through his social media platforms, expressing excitement about reconnecting with Swati fans living in South Africa after spending time away from the Johannesburg comedy stage.
“It’s always a joy for me to take my comedy anywhere in the world regardless of who is there, but it’s an added joy when I see my fellow countrymen in another country. I am incredibly excited about that,” said Mdura.

Known for blending everyday Swati experiences with relatable humour, the comedian said his comedy continues to reflect his patriotism and love for Eswatini culture.
“I am Swati, a patriot of the country and everything Swati, so for me that’s all I have to share with my audiences. I always want to educate people about all things Swati because Emaswati are very hilarious people and great storytellers,” he explained.
Mdura further revealed that although he regularly performs in Eswatini, the upcoming Johannesburg appearance holds special significance because Jozi audiences have not seen him perform there in a while.
“I am not sure about missed, I am on stage every Thursday and every last Friday of the month I have shows with Cedric. I don’t think they have missed me but yes my Jozi people have missed me. It’s been a while since I did a show in Jozi. They can expect a great time,” he said.
While many comedians focus heavily on lineups and featured acts, Mdura said his main focus remains the audience and delivering memorable performances.
“For me honestly the lineup is never important, what is more important is the audience. These are my brothers, I love them but they know that as comedians we don’t really pay much attention to the lineup,” he added.

Beyond entertaining crowds, the comedian also raised concerns about the slow growth of stand-up comedy in Eswatini, saying more emerging comedians are needed to strengthen the industry.
However, he said initiatives such as Eswatini’s Next Top Comedian, run in partnership with ENCAC, are helping mentor upcoming talent across the country.
“I am always available to share what I have learned over the years, so I am always happy if I can help upcoming comedians,” he said.
