MBABANE– The Royal Eswatini Police Service has intensified its grassroots campaign against crime, bringing together security personnel, community stakeholders and law enforcement officers in a united push to build safer communities across the country.
Through its Community Safety Unit (CSU), formerly known as the Crime Prevention Unit, the police service this week rolled out a series of awareness engagements aimed at tackling some of the nation’s most pressing social challenges. Officers stationed in Tshaneni and Siteki led discussions on crime prevention, gangsterism, domestic violence, sexual offences and road safety, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in protecting communities.
In Tshaneni, members of the CSU met Bastion security guards at Thunzini, where officers encouraged private security personnel to play a stronger role in identifying suspicious activities and promoting safety in workplaces and surrounding neighbourhoods. The engagement created an open platform for dialogue, allowing participants to exchange experiences and practical solutions on how communities can respond swiftly to criminal behaviour.
Meanwhile, in Siteki, CSU officers engaged members of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) at the Mlindazwe Base. The session focused on strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies and ensuring that security institutions work together in addressing the root causes of crime.
The initiative highlights a growing shift towards community-centred policing in Eswatini, where education and prevention are increasingly becoming powerful tools in reducing criminal activity. By taking crime awareness campaigns directly to workplaces and institutions, police officers are widening the national conversation on safety and encouraging citizens to become active participants in crime prevention efforts.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a proactive step that promotes trust, accountability and stronger partnerships between communities and law enforcement agencies.
As crime patterns continue to evolve, the Royal Eswatini Police Service remains focused on building informed and resilient communities capable of resisting violence and criminal influence. The continued outreach campaigns also reflect the organisation’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups while creating safer environments for families, workers and young people.
The engagements stand as another example of how collaboration, awareness and shared responsibility can drive positive change and strengthen national security from the ground up.
