MBABANE– In an effort to shape a safer and more responsible generation, officers from His Majesty’s Correctional Services recently visited pupils at Hhohho AME Primary School, where they delivered powerful lessons on the dangers of gangsterism, substance abuse and other destructive behaviours affecting young people.
The educational outreach programme, information sourced from the official Facebook page of His Majesty’s Correctional Services, was led by HMCS Deputy Public Relations Officer, Assistant Chief Officer Baphelele Kunene. He was accompanied by Correctional Officers Mfundo Dlamini, Luvuyo Dlamini and Sanele Simelane.
Addressing the learners, the officers urged pupils to stay away from drugs, alcohol, violence and criminal activities that continue to destroy the futures of many young people. They also warned learners about the dangers of joining gangs, explaining how peer pressure often leads children into harmful lifestyles that eventually affect families and communities.
The officers encouraged pupils to focus on their education, respect their parents and teachers and work hard towards becoming responsible citizens. Through interactive discussions and motivational talks, the children were reminded that every decision they make today has the power to shape their future.
Many pupils listened attentively as officers shared practical examples of how substance abuse and criminal behaviour can negatively affect one’s life. The engagement created an open environment where learners were free to ask questions and learn more about making positive life choices.
School Head Phiwa Dlamini praised HMCS for taking time to engage with the learners, describing the initiative as important in protecting children from harmful influences at an early stage. He said such programmes help instil discipline, self-respect and confidence among pupils.
The outreach programme once again highlighted HMCS’ growing commitment to community rehabilitation, crime prevention and youth empowerment through education and awareness campaigns aimed at building a better Eswatini for future generations.
