MBABANE– Excitement and optimism filled the air at Manyovu High School as the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, through the Microprojects Programme, officially launched a lifechanging water installation project in partnership with Engineers in Action.
The E620 000 initiative is expected to transform the lives of learners, teachers, parents, and the surrounding community by improving access to clean and reliable water. Community members have also demonstrated commitment towards the success of the project through a 10 percent contribution in labour and financial support.
Implementation of the project is scheduled to begin on 2 June and conclude on 31 July 2026.
For years, Manyovu High School and nearby households have struggled with inadequate water supply, a challenge that affected sanitation, hygiene, and the overall learning environment. The newly launched project is expected to ease those hardships and create a healthier and more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
Beyond the school gates, the project is also set to uplift the wider community by improving access to safe water for daily use, an important step towards enhancing living standards in the area.
Adding an international touch to the initiative, American student volunteers from Engineers in Action are expected to join the project during implementation, working side by side with local stakeholders and community members. The number of volunteers is yet to be confirmed.
Speaking during the launch, Honourable Member of Parliament Nomalungelo Simelane expressed sincere gratitude to Engineers in Action for supporting the Manyovu community. She acknowledged that many communities across the country submit requests to the Microprojects Office, making the approval of the Manyovu project a moment of pride and appreciation for residents.
Bucopho Ebony Dlamini also applauded the partnership, describing water as a vital resource that has the power to improve lives and strengthen education. He encouraged community members to fully support the project and work together with implementers to ensure its success.
The project stands as another example of how partnerships between government, communities, and international organisations can create meaningful development and restore hope in underserved areas.
