SIMUNYE – “Exercising helps you spend less on medical bills.”
These were the words of Zambian fitness instructor Mulemwa Lubasi during the Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES) Aerobathon held at Thembelisha in Simunye on Saturday.
The wellness event was organised by RES in partnership with Fitness Zone, the company’s wellness service provider, and attracted more than 70 fitness enthusiasts from across the country.
Lubasi, who was the guest instructor at the event, led participants through energetic boxing, step aerobics and functional training sessions. He said regular exercise had significantly improved his health and overall wellbeing.
“Exercising helps you spend less on medical bills. I have not been sick for two years, and I believe staying active is one of the reasons,” said Lubasi.
The Aerobathon formed part of RES’s ongoing efforts to promote healthy lifestyles among employees and members of the community through physical activity and wellness programmes.
RES employee Winile Dlamini said the initiative was beneficial not only to individuals but also to the company.
“A healthy body is a healthy mind. We appreciate Fitness Zone for partnering with RES on this initiative because the company benefits when employees are healthy and productive,” he said.
Fitness Zone Administrator Sibonisile Nxumalo said their organisation remained committed to encouraging people to embrace healthier lifestyles through exercise.
“We motivate our clients to stay healthy and fit. Exercise is crucial in preventing diseases such as diabetes and many others,” said Nxumalo.
Participant William Sikati of Big Bend, who trains at Ubombo Country Club, said the event demonstrated the growth of the fitness industry in Eswatini.
“We used to travel to neighbouring countries for fitness events and sometimes felt out of place because we were unfamiliar with some of the activities. Now the standards here in Eswatini are rising and are comparable to, if not better than, what we see elsewhere,” said Sikati.
The event featured a variety of fitness activities, including boxing, step aerobics, functional training and other group workout sessions aimed at encouraging participants to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.
