MATSAPHA– Patients receiving palliative care at Hospice at Home are set to enjoy improved comfort, dignity and quality care following a E160 000 investment by MTN Eswatini through its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign.
The telecommunications giant officially handed over a refurbished Palliative Care In-Patient Department, a restored water system and six new patient beds valued at E90 000 during a ceremony attended by government officials, healthcare stakeholders and MTN representatives.
The initiative forms part of this year’s Y’ello Care campaign themed “Connecting at the Roots: Connecting Communities Through the Use of Digital Tools.” The project was implemented under the health pillar, focusing on improving access to healthcare services for vulnerable members of society.
Speaking during the handover, MTN Eswatini Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jerry Soko, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to making a lasting difference in communities across the country.
“Over the past three weeks of Y’ello Care, we have witnessed the true power of purpose-driven impact, where MTNers, partners and communities come together to create meaningful change,” said Soko.
He noted that the refurbishment has significantly improved the hospice facility, creating a more comfortable, supportive and dignified environment for patients receiving palliative care.
Beyond financial support, Soko highlighted the active participation of MTN employees who volunteered their time and effort to restore the hospice’s water system.
“Just last week Friday, MTNers rolled up their sleeves, got their hands dirty and worked together to restore the water system, demonstrating the true spirit of Y’ello Care,” he said.
Soko also extended gratitude to the Ministry of Health for its continued partnership in strengthening healthcare services across Eswatini.
He praised Hospice at Home for its unwavering commitment to caring for patients and supporting families during some of life’s most difficult moments.
The Acting CEO further acknowledged the support received from MTN’s partners, including Oracle Group Eswatini and Magagula & Hlophe Attorneys, whose contributions helped make the project a success.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our partners in this campaign. Your contribution has been instrumental in making this impact possible,” he said.
Soko reaffirmed MTN Eswatini’s commitment to working alongside government, healthcare institutions and communities to bridge healthcare gaps and ensure quality healthcare services are accessible to all Emaswati.
He emphasized that the handover represented more than the completion of an infrastructure project.
“Today’s handover is not the end. It is the beginning of more lives being cared for, more families being supported and more hope being restored,” said Soko.
The investment is expected to have a lasting impact on patients receiving care at the facility, while reinforcing the importance of partnerships in improving healthcare outcomes and restoring dignity to those facing life-limiting illnesses.
