MBABANE – Eswatini and the Republic of China (Taiwan) have marked 58 years of diplomatic relations with a significant humanitarian and education focused donation aimed at strengthening livelihoods, skills development, and learning opportunities across the country.
The announcement was made during a high level ceremony held at the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office Boardroom, where officials described the partnership as one built on long standing solidarity dating back to Eswatini’s independence in 1968.
The donation includes 35 brand new sewing machines dedicated to persons with disabilities, designed to promote self reliance and skills development. In the education sector, 500 StudyCat learning sets will be distributed through the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, while 1 500 StudyCat software packages will support learners under the Ministry of Education and Training.
Further support includes 1 004 pairs of new shoes valued at USD 210 000, laptops to strengthen digital learning capacity, and 1 369 clothing items intended to assist vulnerable families.
Deputy Prime Minister officials said the initiative represents more than material support, describing it as a restoration of dignity, hope, and opportunity for citizens. They emphasized that the resources will be carefully distributed to ensure they reach intended beneficiaries.
Speaking during the engagement, government leaders highlighted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to inclusive development, particularly for children and persons with disabilities.
Officials from Taiwan reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation with Eswatini through continued support in education, empowerment, and community development.
The event brought together senior government officials, Taiwanese delegates, diplomatic representatives, and education stakeholders, reinforcing what both sides described as a “people centered partnership for development.”
