MBABANE – Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini, Victor Matemadanda, has died, Permanent Secretary in the Zimbabwean Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana has announced.
Writing on his X account on Sunday morning, Mangwana said the diplomat died on Saturday night.
“Ambassador Victor Matemadanda passed away last night. This is a deeply saddening loss,” he said.
“Dr Matemadanda served as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini. Sincere condolences go to His Excellency the President, whom he represented with dedication, and to his family, friends, colleagues and the nation at large.”
Since his appointment as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini in 2021, Victor Matemadanda played a key role in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Harare and Mbabane. He regularly engaged with senior government officials in both countries to promote cooperation in trade, agriculture, education and regional development.
One of his most notable engagements with Eswatini came in May 2025, when he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini and delivered a special message from Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to His Majesty King Mswati III. During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and explored opportunities for collaboration in trade, agriculture, education, cultural exchange and regional peace initiatives.
Matemadanda consistently advocated for stronger cooperation between Zimbabwe and Eswatini, emphasizing the long-standing historical and cultural ties shared by the two Southern African nations. His diplomatic efforts focused on expanding economic partnerships, encouraging investment and fostering closer regional integration under the framework of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
