MANZINI– Government is facilitating the release of funds to enable the Microprojects Programme to settle payments owed to contractors while supporting the continued implementation of community development projects.
Microprojects Programme Director Sibusiso Mbingo said Government was working to ensure that the necessary funds are made available to the Programme to support the payment process. Mbingo explained that the process involves Government facilitating the release of funds to enable the Programme to meet its obligations to contractors who have been engaged in the implementation of community development projects.
He said resolving the payment process was important for the continued delivery of projects, as contractors play a key role in constructing infrastructure intended to address the needs of communities.
The Director said the Programme was continuing to work through the relevant processes to support payments while ensuring that community development projects remain part of its ongoing work. The Microprojects Programme implements small-scale infrastructure projects in communities across the country, with projects designed to respond to identified local needs.
These projects include community infrastructure such as footbridges and other facilities aimed at improving access to services and making it easier for communities to reach essential infrastructure. Mbingo said Government’s efforts to facilitate the release of funds would assist the Programme in addressing its financial commitments to contractors.
He further explained that the payment process and project implementation were connected, as contractors need to be paid for work undertaken while the Programme must continue planning and implementing projects that respond to community priorities.
The Director said the Programme remained committed to working with Government and other stakeholders to ensure that the necessary processes were followed to support both contractor payments and the implementation of community projects.
The Programme’s work is part of Government’s broader community development efforts, which seek to provide infrastructure that can improve access and address challenges experienced by people in different areas.
Mbingo said continued support for the payment process would help create room for the Programme to proceed with its mandate and deliver projects that have been identified for communities. Mbingo said the Programme would continue working within Government processes to support the implementation of projects while addressing the financial requirements associated with contractors.
The facilitation of funds therefore forms part of ongoing efforts to keep the community development programme moving while supporting contractors involved in delivering infrastructure.
