MBABANE- Eswatini’s cultural calendar is about to come alive with an unforgettable evening of African jazz, powerful storytelling and homegrown excellence

Music has always been one of Africa’s most powerful storytellers, carrying the heartbeat of its people, their dreams, struggles and triumphs. On Friday, 14 August 2026, Eswatini will witness one such story unfold when acclaimed Swati vocalist, pianist, composer and cultural ambassador Akuse Khula officially launches his highly anticipated debut album, Phuphani (“Dream”), during An Evening with Akuse Khula – Phuphani Album Launch at the Eswatini Theatre Club in Mbabane.

Presented in partnership with Lokuhle Media Group, the evening promises to be far more than an album launch. It is a celebration of African excellence, cultural identity and the enduring power of music to inspire generations while reaffirming Eswatini’s growing place on the continent’s creative landscape.

Under the leadership of its Director, Phindokuhle Sithole, Lokuhle Media Group has continued to position itself as one of Eswatini’s leading creative agencies, championing African talent by creating platforms that elevate local and regional artists while showcasing the Kingdom as a destination for arts, culture and creative excellence. Through its partnership with Akuse Khula, the company once again demonstrates its commitment to nurturing meaningful cultural collaborations that connect Eswatini with the broader African creative community.

Produced by renowned South African bassist Victor Sibusiso Masondo, Phuphani is a 13-track African jazz masterpiece inspired by identity, resilience and the courage to pursue one’s dreams. Written primarily in siSwati, the album proudly celebrates African heritage while encouraging communities to dream beyond limitations and contribute meaningfully to society.

Although now based in Pretoria, Akuse Khula’s roots remain firmly planted in both Eswatini and Mpumalanga. His family’s journey across borders has shaped a distinctive artistic voice that reflects the shared history, language and cultural identity of the two neighbouring regions. Through his music, he builds bridges between communities, reminding audiences that culture remains one of Africa’s greatest strengths.

The significance of Phuphani extends beyond music. The project closely aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Mswati III, whose continued commitment to cultural preservation, youth empowerment, education and economic growth through innovation and the creative industries continues to shape Eswatini’s future. The King’s emphasis on preserving the country’s identity while embracing opportunities for development finds meaningful expression in Phuphani, an album that encourages Africans to dream boldly, pursue excellence and uplift their communities.

Speaking about the partnership, Phindokuhle Sithole, Director of Lokuhle Media Group, said the event represents far more than entertainment, describing it as an investment in Eswatini’s creative future.

“The creative industry has the power to inspire hope, preserve our identity and create opportunities for future generations. Through events such as the Phuphani album launch, we continue building platforms that celebrate African excellence while contributing to the Kingdom’s vision of developing a vibrant creative economy.”

For Akuse Khula, Phuphani is deeply personal. It is not simply a collection of songs but an invitation to every African dreamer to believe in their purpose and embrace their potential.

Phuphani is a reminder that our dreams matter. It is a call to believe in our potential, honour our heritage and work diligently towards building a better future for ourselves and for generations to come.”

Music lovers can expect an intimate evening filled with live African jazz, storytelling and musical excellence that reflects the richness of Eswatini’s cultural heritage while introducing audiences to one of Southern Africa’s most exciting emerging voices.

The event is expected to attract music enthusiasts, cultural leaders, creatives, members of the media, business stakeholders and supporters of African arts from across the region, making it one of the Kingdom’s standout entertainment and cultural events of the year.
