LOBAMBA- A simple act of kindness has restored smiles and dignity to women at Mawelawela Correctional Centre after Montigny Investments donated toiletries and clothing worth E10 000 to support their daily needs.
The donation was handed over by Tintfombi Simelane from the company’s Legal Department and received by Senior Superintendent Bethwell Dlamini together with the centre’s Chaplain.
The gesture came after the correctional centre approached Montigny Investments a few weeks ago, highlighting a critical shortage of essential toiletries for women at the facility.
Responding to the request, the company donated toiletries and clothing valued at E10 000 as part of its commitment to supporting communities and improving the lives of vulnerable people.
In a statement, Montigny Investments said it was pleased to respond to the appeal.
“A few weeks ago, the administration at Mawelawela reached out to us highlighting a critical need for essential toiletries for the women at the facility. True to our values and committed to standing by our communities, we stepped in to fulfil the request,” the company said.
Montigny Investments said the donation reflects its belief that dignity is a basic human right.
“At Montigny, we believe that dignity is fundamental, and we are grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference,” the company added.
Receiving the donation, Senior Superintendent Bethwell Dlamini thanked the company for its timely support, saying the toiletries and clothing would help meet the daily needs of women inmates and contribute to their wellbeing.
The donation is expected to ease pressure on the correctional centre while promoting personal hygiene and dignity among the beneficiaries.
The initiative also demonstrates the important role the private sector can play in complementing government efforts through corporate social responsibility programmes that uplift communities and bring hope to those in need.
