MATSAPHA – What started as a routine shopping trip ended in tears of joy for Siphiwosami Simelane, whose long-held dream of owning a brand-new vehicle became a reality after winning a Hyundai Exter 1.2 worth E289 900 in the Buy ‘n Save SPAR Win a Car promotion.
The Edwaleni resident and Siteki Town Council Human Resources Officer emerged as the grand prize winner during the colourful live draw held on July 19, 2026, at the Matsapha Lifestyle Centre. Simelane outshone 90 finalists from across Eswatini to claim the top prize, bringing the retailer’s successful nine-week nationwide campaign to a memorable close.
As the winning ticket was announced, loud cheers erupted from the crowd as an emotional Simelane made her way to the stage to receive the keys to her new vehicle. Amid applause from family, friends and fellow finalists, she climbed behind the wheel and took her brand-new Hyundai Exter for its first test drive, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her life.
Speaking moments after receiving the keys, Simelane described the win as nothing short of an answered prayer.
“My prayers have been answered. Even before this draw, I had been praying to God for a car. I thank God for using Buy ‘n Save SPAR to answer that prayer. I am truly grateful and overwhelmed with joy. I never imagined that one shopping trip would change my life like this,” she said.
Simelane, who previously drove a Toyota Vitz, said winning the vehicle had strengthened her faith and reminded her that blessings often come when least expected. She also thanked Buy ‘n Save SPAR for giving ordinary shoppers an opportunity to win life-changing prizes.
The promotion rewarded customers who shopped at participating Buy ‘n Save SPAR stores over a nine-week period, with 90 finalists qualifying for the grand draw after meeting the campaign requirements.
The excitement extended beyond the grand prize. Njabulo Dlamini walked away with the second prize, a 60-inch television valued at E7 699, while Mukelisiwe Msibi claimed third prize, receiving a 43-inch television worth E4 999.
Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo applauded Buy ‘n Save SPAR for rewarding loyal customers while stimulating economic activity.
“This promotion is more than just giving away prizes. It demonstrates how the private sector can reward customer loyalty, stimulate economic activity and give back to the people who continue to support local businesses. We encourage more companies to invest in initiatives that create hope and excitement for emaSwati,” he said.
Khumalo said such promotions strengthen consumer confidence, encourage local spending and demonstrate the positive contribution businesses make towards national economic development.
Also addressing the gathering, Manzini Regional Administrator Chief Prince Gija Dlamini commended Buy ‘n Save SPAR for consistently recognising loyal customers through meaningful rewards.
“Buy ‘n Save SPAR has shown that successful businesses can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Rewarding customers in this way strengthens communities, inspires hope and reflects a genuine commitment to giving back to the public. We encourage more companies to follow this example,” he said.
The event attracted government leaders, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, business executives, shoppers and members of the public, creating a festive atmosphere as anticipation built ahead of the announcement of the grand prize winner.
The campaign concluded with Simelane smiling from behind the wheel as she took her brand-new Hyundai Exter for its first test drive, drawing applause from the crowd and bringing a memorable end to the promotion.
For Simelane, the prize represented far more than a new vehicle. It was the fulfilment of a heartfelt prayer, transforming an ordinary shopping trip into a life-changing moment she will cherish for years to come.
