MBABANE– Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called on Emaswati to honour the sacrifices of those who secured the Kingdom’s independence by protecting the peace, unity and sovereignty that generations before them fought to preserve.
In his Independence Day message, the Prime Minister said independence should not only be viewed as a celebration, but as a precious inheritance that must be guarded and renewed by every generation.
“As we celebrate this Independence Day, let us honour the sacrifices of those who came before us by protecting the peace, unity and sovereignty they secured for us,” Dlamini said.
He reminded the nation that for Africans, independence represented much more than a change of administration. It was the restoration of the fundamental right of people to govern themselves, possess their land, preserve their language and culture and determine their own destiny.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to those who carried the burden of the colonial years and worked to secure Eswatini’s freedom.
He specifically honoured chiefs who resisted the alienation of the country’s land, Emaswati who sacrificed to reclaim it and the late King Sobhuza II, whose wisdom, patience and statesmanship guided the nation to independence without bloodshed.
Dlamini said the responsibility of protecting that legacy now rests with the present generation.
He urged Emaswati to remain vigilant, industrious, faithful to the law and committed to placing the interests of the Kingdom above personal interests.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of the monarchy in the country’s national identity, describing it as a source of unity, a custodian of heritage and a symbol of national continuity.
He said Eswatini’s constitutional journey had continued to strengthen the rule of law, democratic institutions, fundamental rights and the participation of citizens in the affairs of the Kingdom.
As the country marks another Independence Day, the Prime Minister called for continued commitment to national unity and peace, saying these were among the most important legacies inherited from previous generations.
He further urged Eswatini to continue playing its part within the African family by supporting efforts towards a united, peaceful, self-reliant and prosperous continent.
The Prime Minister extended government’s Independence Day wishes to His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, the Royal Family and the entire nation.
