DVOKOLWAKO– Prince Sicalo has completed the payment of dowry for his wife, Inkhosikati LaMagagula, in a traditional ceremony held at kaDvokolwako.
The ceremony marked the fulfilment of an important customary requirement in their marriage, with Prince Sicalo presenting 15 emabheka cattle, together with a lugege and insulamnyembeti.
In Swati custom, emabheka refers to the cattle given as lobolo and forms an important part of the traditional marriage process. The lugege and insulamnyembeti are also recognised within the customary formalities surrounding marriage. The latter is traditionally associated with acknowledging the bride’s mother for the role she played in raising her daughter.
According to reports from Channel YemaSwati television, the ceremony was attended by members of the Royal Family, Army Commander General Moses Mashikilisane Fakudze, Cabinet ministers and other government officials.
Chief Madvubane Magagula described the Royal Family’s presence at kaDvokolwako as a blessing, saying the occasion was particularly significant for the community.
He also praised Inkhosikati LaMagagula for representing kaDvokolwako well within the Royal Family, saying the completion of the traditional requirements demonstrated the importance attached to her role.
Prince Sicalo was accompanied by Prince Qethuka Sgombeni during the ceremony.
The fulfilment of lobolo remains an important expression of the relationship between two families under Swati custom, formally recognising the union while strengthening ties between the families involved. Eswatini’s customary marriage framework continues to recognise traditional processes alongside modern forms of marriage.
