MANZINI – The Embiveni Biggest Braai is taking a different approach to this year’s festivities by dedicating a full day to promoting a drug-free lifestyle among young people through entertainment, competition and education.
The Drug-Free Youth Event, scheduled for 23 July at the Mavuso Centre Ground, will bring together learners from schools across Eswatini for a programme featuring music, poetry, drama, quizzes, talent searches and children’s games, all centred on raising awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
The initiative marks a growing trend in Eswatini’s entertainment industry, where major events are increasingly incorporating social awareness campaigns into their programmes. Rather than relying solely on performances and festivities, organisers are using entertainment platforms to address issues affecting communities, particularly the country’s youth.
Learners will compete in categories that challenge them to creatively communicate anti-drug messages through music, drama and poetry, while history quizzes and participation awards are also expected to form part of the day’s programme. The event will culminate in the recognition of the best-performing school.
The youth event forms part of the 10th Agape Edition of the Embiveni Biggest Braai, which has evolved into more than an entertainment gathering. Over the years, the annual event has expanded its programme to include initiatives that combine community engagement with music, lifestyle and cultural activities.
As concern over substance abuse among young people continues to feature in public discourse, organisers hope the event will encourage learners to embrace positive lifestyles while showcasing their talents in a supportive environment. By placing young people at the centre of the programme, the event seeks to demonstrate how entertainment can be used as a vehicle for education and social change.
The Drug-Free Youth Event is expected to precede the main Embiveni Biggest Braai festivities, setting the tone for a celebration that combines entertainment with community impact.
