MALKERNS– While music echoed from the festival stages and artists kept crowds entertained, another celebration was taking place at the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival the celebration of African food, flavour and culinary heritage.
At the heart of the food experience was the Food Heritage Garden, where festival-goers gathered to explore different flavours, enjoy freshly prepared meals and experience the richness of African cuisine.
The space offered more than a place to eat. It became a meeting point where friends and families shared meals, visitors discovered new dishes and food lovers connected over a shared appreciation for African flavours.
As festival-goers moved between the Main Stage, HoneyComb Stage and other entertainment areas, many made their way to the Food Heritage Garden to take a break from the music and enjoy the festival’s culinary offerings.
The aroma of freshly prepared food filled the space as vendors served a variety of meals, adding another layer to the vibrant atmosphere that defined the festival weekend.
For some, it was a quick stop before returning to watch their favourite artists. For others, it was an opportunity to sit down, relax and enjoy conversations while tasting different flavours.
The Food Heritage Garden also reflected the spirit behind this year’s theme, “KWASUKASUKELA: A RETURN TO THE AFRICAN FUTURE.” Through traditional flavours, locally inspired dishes and modern culinary creativity, the food space showed how African cuisine can remain connected to its roots while continuing to evolve.
The theme encouraged festival-goers to look back at African heritage while imagining the future, and the Food Heritage Garden brought that idea to life through food.
Beyond satisfying hunger, the space created opportunities for food businesses and culinary creatives to showcase their work to a diverse audience.
