EZULWINI – The 2026 King’s Cup Golf Tournament will offer a record E1.035 million in prize money and performance incentives after the Government unveiled the richest rewards package in the tournament’s history during Friday’s official launch.
Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta announced the historic prize structure, saying it reflects Government’s commitment to developing golf while positioning the King’s Cup among the region’s premier tournaments.
The centrepiece of the package is a E700 000 professional prize purse, which the minister said is double the prize money offered at the Big Easy Tour Championship, making the King’s Cup one of the most attractive tournaments on the regional golfing calendar.
In addition to the main purse, Government and its partners have set aside a further E335 000 in bonuses and incentive awards, bringing the total prize package to E1.035 million.
The incentives include E225 000 reserved for the top three emaSwati professional golfers. The leading local professional will pocket a E100 000 bonus, while second and third place will receive E75 000 and E50 000, respectively.
A further E40 000 has been allocated to reward the top transformational players from neighbouring African countries. The highest-finishing eligible player will earn E20 000, followed by bonuses of E15 000 and E5 000.
The minister also announced a E35 000 prize pool for the top three amateur golfers competing in the main Pro-Am event, further strengthening opportunities for the country’s emerging talent.
Mkhonta said the incentives represent much more than financial rewards.
“These incentives are more than prize money. They represent an investment in talent development, creating opportunities for golfers to compete at higher levels while strengthening Eswatini’s presence within the professional golfing fraternity,” she said.
The minister also confirmed that His Majesty King Mswati III has approved the dates for this year’s tournament.
The Pro-Am competition will be staged on September 1 and 2, before the King’s Cup Championship tees off from September 3 to 5 at the Ezulwini Golf Course.
Ahead of the main event, golfers will have an opportunity to earn their place through a King’s Cup Pre-Qualifier Tournament, where successful professionals and amateurs will qualify for the Pro-Am competition.
Mkhonta encouraged golfers from across the country, both men and women, to seize the opportunity to compete in one of the biggest tournaments ever staged in Eswatini.
She also paid tribute to the tournament’s sponsors and partners, saying their continued investment demonstrates confidence in sport’s ability to stimulate economic growth, promote tourism and elevate Eswatini’s international profile.
The minister said the King’s Cup aligns with Government’s broader national development agenda by bringing together sport, tourism, commerce and the private sector to generate lasting economic and social benefits.
With a record E1.035 million prize package and growing international recognition, the 2026 King’s Cup is set to become the richest and most prestigious edition in the tournament’s history.
