EZULWINI– The historic Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone VI Secretaries General Seminar has successfully concluded in the Kingdom of Eswatini, with regional sporting leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation and the development of sport.
Hosted at the Happy Valley Hotel, the seminar brought together 10 Secretaries General and Chief Executive Officers representing the 10 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the Zone VI region.
The gathering provided a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and collaboration, with discussions focused on strengthening relations and advancing sport across the region.
The seminar was attended by ANOCA Zone VI President Hon. Jappie Mhango, while ANOCA Secretary General Ahmed Hashim joined proceedings virtually from Cairo.
Also contributing to the seminar were AUSC Region 5 CEO Stanley Mutoya, Namibia Sports Commission CEO Dr Freddy Mwiya and Eswatini Sports and Recreational Council (ESRC) representative and CEO Darius Dlomo.
The delegates also had an opportunity to experience Eswatini’s cultural heritage when they attended the Annual Reed Dance before concluding their stay in the Kingdom.
FOCUS SHIFTS TO YOUTH GAMES
With the seminar now concluded, attention turns to two major youth sporting events on the regional calendar.
All 10 countries in the Zone VI region are expected to be represented at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, while the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games will take place in Maputo, Mozambique, in December 2026.
In a further demonstration of regional cooperation, ANOCA Zone VI has pledged US$50,000 (approximately E804 750.50 )towards the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games.
The commitment follows the signing of an agreement between ANOCA Zone VI and AUSC Region 5, strengthening the partnership between the two sporting bodies.
The conclusion of the seminar therefore marks another step towards closer cooperation among the region’s National Olympic Committees as they work together to promote and develop sport.
