MBABANE– Police have dealt a significant blow to dagga trafficking operations after four suspects were arrested and nearly 90kg of dagga seized during separate operations conducted across the country on Saturday.
The suspects were arrested by Buhleni and Lavumisa Police and charged for contravening the Pharmacy Act after allegedly being found in possession of dagga without the required licence or permit.
At about 11am on Saturday, Buhleni Police arrested two men, aged 28 and 32, from Mgungundlovu and Bulandzeni after they were allegedly found in possession of 66.7kg of dagga at Mzinene.
The suspects were reportedly travelling in a Honda Fit when police intercepted them.
In a separate operation, Lavumisa Police arrested a suspect at about 1.30am at Nsubane after allegedly discovering 11.2kg of dagga hidden inside the boot of a white Nissan sedan.
Later at about 9.30am, police arrested another 28-year-old man from Sigwe, Tidulini, after he was allegedly found with 11.92kg of dagga concealed in the boot of a Toyota Quantum at They.
The seizures bring the total amount of dagga recovered in the reported operations to 89.82kg, highlighting the continued efforts by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) to disrupt the illegal drug trade.
The police have reiterated their commitment to clamping down on dagga trafficking and dealing, which remain illegal in the country. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
