MANZINI – Music is a journey worth taking with that one person. For two emerging musicians from Siteki, making music together has become part of the journey of finding a place in Eswatini’s competitive entertainment industry.
Siyabonga Myeni, known as EmDee, and Banele Hlatshwako, professionally known as Lyrical Besh Dpr, have teamed up for a new single titled “Ungatimatanisi”, as they continue working to grow their names beyond their hometown. The collaboration brings together two young artists at different stages of building their careers but with a shared goal of getting their music heard.
EmDee is balancing his musical ambitions with life as a learner at Langa High School, while continuing to develop his sound. For Lyrical Besh Dpr, the new collaboration adds to his growing list of musical appearances, including his feature on As 4 JerryP’s album “Libhungu Lemhlolo”, on the track “Vumani.”
Rather than waiting for a major break or an established artist to open doors, the two have chosen to work together and create their own opportunity. Their partnership also comes as young artists from different parts of the country continue using collaborations to introduce themselves to wider audiences and strengthen their presence in the local music scene.
“Ungatimatanisi” will not be the only project carrying the duo’s ambitions. EmDee and Lyrical Besh Dpr are also working towards an Extended Play titled “S’bane saNgwane,” which is expected to give listeners a broader introduction to their individual styles and creative partnership.
For the two Siteki musicians, the collaboration is about more than releasing another song. It is part of the process of building an identity, finding an audience and proving that young talent can emerge from outside the country’s main entertainment centres.
Whether “Ungatimatanisi” becomes the song that pushes the pair to a wider audience remains to be seen. However, EmDee and Lyrical Besh Dpr have already made their approach clear: instead of trying to find their sound alone, they are finding it together.
