MBABANE – Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) collected E14.612 billion and has been recognised as the Overall Best Performing Organisation at the SABPP Excellence in People Practices & Governance Awards.
The recognition comes as ERS continues to strengthen revenue collection, taxpayer compliance and internal governance, with its performance contributing to an increase in Eswatini’s national tax-to-GDP ratio to 16.7 percent.
ERS also received the Best Audited Organisation: Outside South Africa award, recognising its commitment to transparency, accountability and sound financial management.
The revenue authority has recorded a significant improvement in voluntary tax compliance, which increased from approximately 62 percent in the 2019/20 financial year to more than 72 percent.
The improvement has been supported by sustained taxpayer education, enhanced customer service and digital investments aimed at making tax compliance simpler for taxpayers.
ERS is now working towards its target of 100 percent voluntary compliance, with the organisation’s performance supported by a focus on developing a high-performing and empowered workforce.
The awards also recognised the role of effective people practices in driving ERS’s performance. Leadership credited the Human Capital Department for championing initiatives that promote employee engagement and organisational excellence.
The Board of Directors, management and staff were also commended for their collective dedication and professionalism, which continue to support ERS in fulfilling its mandate of collecting revenue for national development.
The two awards therefore highlight ERS’s progress in combining strong revenue performance with good governance, effective people management and improved service delivery.
