MANZINI – An E51 grocery purchase has earned 33-year-old Simangele Shongwe a brand-new Toyota Starlet valued at E280 000, after her entry emerged as the winner of the Logico promotion.
Shongwe received the keys to the 2026 Toyota Starlet at Pick n Pay Mashayitafula on Friday, September 25, 2026, turning an ordinary shopping trip into an unexpected life-changing moment.
She had bought three cans of Koo baked beans at the same store on May 7, qualifying her to enter the promotion.
Shongwe said she was shocked when she learnt that the modest purchase had resulted in her winning the vehicle.
“I was shocked. I never thought that buying three cans of baked beans would give me a car,” she said.
The promotion was run by Logico in partnership with Tiger Brands’ Culinary Division and was available at Pick n Pay, Spar and Shoprite stores.
Shoppers qualified to enter after purchasing any three participating Tiger Culinary products.
Participating brands included Koo, All Gold, Mrs Ball’s Chutney and Black Cat.
Entries were submitted through an entry slip or the available SMS entry process. Shongwe’s winning entry was linked to her purchase of the three Koo baked beans.
When Shongwe spent E51 on the three cans in May, she had no reason to expect that the purchase would later result in a vehicle.
Four months later, she was standing at Pick n Pay Mashayitafula receiving the keys to a car worth E280 000.
The handover on September 25 marked the culmination of the promotion and transformed Shongwe’s winning entry from a receipt into a tangible prize.
Her story also captures the human side of promotional competitions — the surprise of an ordinary consumer discovering that a routine purchase has produced an extraordinary result.
For Shongwe, the moment remains difficult to believe. She went shopping for three cans of baked beans.
She left the promotion handover with the keys to a new Toyota Starlet.
