MLAWULA– Camping gear for the 7th Mlawula Campfire Festival has sold out, with visitors from across Eswatini and as far away as Spain attending the three-day event at Siphiso Campsite in Mlawula Nature Reserve.
The sell-out comes as the festival enters its second day, with the campsite hosting a programme of outdoor activities, entertainment and social events from September 25 to 27.
The availability of camping gear had allowed festivalgoers to stay at the campsite throughout the event, and organisers have now confirmed that all the available camping equipment has been taken up.
Among those attending are international visitors, including tourists from Spain, alongside local visitors who have travelled to Mlawula for the festival.
The international attendance places the festival within a broader tourism setting, with visitors from outside the country participating in activities at the nature reserve alongside emaSwati.
Day Two began with a morning walk through Mlawula Nature Reserve, followed by an aerobics session at the campsite.
The day’s programme also included a series of recreational competitions, with participants taking part in nail punching, sack races, tug of war and sprints.
The activities attracted spectators and participants, with groups competing against each other as other festivalgoers watched and cheered them on.
A comedy session was also held at the campsite, providing entertainment for visitors between the various activities.
Food and beverages have been available at the festival, with visitors spending time at the campsite between scheduled activities.
The presence of international tourists, including visitors from Spain, comes as the festival continues to combine outdoor recreation with entertainment in one of Eswatini’s nature reserves.
Mlawula Nature Reserve provides the setting for the festival, with the campsite serving as the base for visitors participating in the weekend programme.
The camping gear sell-out is one of the notable developments of this year’s festival, indicating that the available camping facilities have reached capacity before the event concludes.
The festival is scheduled to continue through Sunday, September 27, with more activities expected at Siphiso Campsite.
