NHLANGANO – A braai is usually about what is happening around the fire, but in Nhlangano, the spotlight is set to move to the runway as young creatives get a chance to turn confidence, style and self-expression into a fashion show.
The Nhlangano Best Braai Fashion Show is opening its runway to aspiring models between the ages of 13 and 30, with both newcomers and those with previous modelling experience expected to compete for a place in the show.
For some of the participants, the audition could be their first real encounter with modelling. Others may already be familiar with the runway. Either way, the emphasis is on what they can bring when the spotlight is on them.
The auditions will take place at Mathendele Community Hall on October 3, where aspiring models will be expected to demonstrate their walk and presence. Male participants have been asked to bring clean sneakers, while female participants should come with heels.
The fashion show forms part of the wider Nhlangano Best Braai programme, giving the event a creative element that moves beyond its food-centred identity.
For young people interested in fashion, the significance of the runway may lie less in the glamour of the final show and more in the opportunity to be seen. Modelling can provide a space for young creatives to develop confidence, learn how to present themselves and potentially connect with others working in the fashion and entertainment space.
With the age range stretching from teenagers to young adults, the auditions are also likely to bring together people at very different stages of their creative journeys. The runway, ultimately, will have its own way of deciding who commands attention one walk at a time.
