PIGGS PEAK- The rich history and cultural identity of Pigg’s Peak will take centre stage as the town prepares to host its first Cultural Inter-Ward Festival, with Eswatini National Arts and Culture (ENAC) Chief Executive Officer Stanley Dlamini calling on communities to preserve and showcase their unique heritage.

Dlamini said every town in Eswatini has a history that deserves to be known, particularly through the stories and experiences of elders who carry knowledge of the country’s past.

He was speaking during a briefing ahead of the festival, which brings together Pigg’s Peak’s wards to showcase cultural performances and traditions.

“Every town in the country has a history which the nation deserves to know, and the elders know these histories. These histories make the nation which is Eswatini,” said Dlamini.

He said he was looking forward to the festival with excitement, particularly to learning more about what Pigg’s Peak was like in the past and how its history has shaped the community.

UNUQUE IDENTITY

Dlamini said the festival provides an opportunity for Pigg’s Peak residents to demonstrate the cultural characteristics that distinguish their town from other communities across the country.

“Every community has a cultural identity that can only be identified by that particular town. This is the chance to show what Pigg’s Peak has that is different from other towns,” he said.

He emphasised that the uniqueness of Pigg’s Peak could best be celebrated by the people who belong to the town and understand its history, traditions and cultural identity.

The festival is expected to bring together residents from different wards for cultural performances and activities, providing a platform for communities to share their heritage while giving younger generations an opportunity to learn from those who came before them.

Dlamini’s remarks place the festival beyond entertainment, highlighting its potential role in documenting community histories and strengthening cultural identity.

For Pigg’s Peak, the event presents an opportunity to tell its own story—through the voices, memories and traditions of its people.
