PIGG’S PEAK – Pigg’s Peak Town Council has honoured young pool sensation Simakhelwe “S’makhelwe” Magagula for putting the town and the country at large on the international sporting map through his participation in the 2026 World Junior Heyball Championships in Oslo, Norway.
The Council presented Magagula with a customised pool kit, celebrating the young athlete’s achievement and his efforts in proudly representing both Pigg’s Peak and Eswatini on the international stage.
Magagula, who is the reigning junior champion under the Eswatini Cue Sports Association (ECSA), represented the Kingdom at the prestigious championships held from June 12 to 17. His participation provided him with an opportunity to compete against talented junior players from different countries and gain valuable international experience.
For Pigg’s Peak Town Council, the recognition was also aimed at encouraging young people in the town to pursue their talents and strive for excellence in their respective fields.
Mayor Sipho Shongwe congratulated Magagula for his achievement, saying the young pool player had made the town proud by carrying the national flag onto an international platform.
“We are proud of Simakhelwe for lifting the flag of Eswatini and putting Pigg’s Peak on the international sporting map. His achievement is a reflection of the talent we have in our community, and we hope his journey will inspire other young people to believe in themselves, work hard and pursue their talents to greater heights,” said Mayor Sipho Shongwe.
Shongwe thanked Magagula for lifting the flag of Eswatini high and for demonstrating that young people from Pigg’s Peak can compete and make an impact beyond the country’s borders.
The Mayor’s remarks highlighted Council’s appreciation of young talent within the town and the importance of recognising young people whose achievements bring pride to the community.
Magagula’s recognition comes as an encouragement to other aspiring athletes in Pigg’s Peak to take their sporting abilities seriously and pursue opportunities that can expose them to competition beyond Eswatini.
Through the honour, Pigg’s Peak Town Council has placed emphasis on celebrating home-grown talent and motivating the town’s young people to believe in their abilities and aim for greater heights.
