MANZINI – The weekend is packed with places to be and things to do, but from Friday night, the spotlight will also turn towards church lovers as worshippers gather for an all-night experience at the Light of Christ Auditorium.
Friday night usually comes with its own rhythm. As different crowds make plans for a busy weekend, for worshippers, the weekend brings SOWINI, themed “Natured in His Presence”, where worshippers will gather for an all-night gathering from 6pm on Friday until 6am Saturday.
The timing comes as Eswatini heads into a weekend filled with different forms of entertainment and social gatherings. While some will be looking for parties and live entertainment, Sowini speaks to an audience whose idea of a good Friday night can just as easily involve singing, prayer and worship until sunrise.
The programme brings together a mix of gospel performers, including Simiso Simelane, Isabel Maziya, Mzayoni Tsabedze, Gcebile Maseko, Blessing Dludlu, Machave Simelane, Mrs Vee, Shile Nkonde, Nozipho Beulah, Make N. Siwela and Shongwe & Khuphuka Saved Group.
Reverend S. Msetfwa will also share the Word of God, giving the night a balance between musical performances and its spiritual focus.
But beyond the names on the programme, the gathering taps into something familiar within church communities the joy of being in a room where everyone knows the songs, joins in the worship and shares the same reason for staying up late.
There is something different about worship when it stretches beyond the usual Sunday service. The clock moves past midnight, voices get louder and, for those in the room, the night becomes less about watching a performance and more about participating in it.
With plenty happening around the country this weekend, SOWINI offers church lovers their own way to enjoy the weekend not by stepping away from entertainment, but by experiencing it through the music and worship that speak to them.
