MBABANE – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Eswatini on the occasion of the Kingdom’s Independence Day.
In his goodwill message, delivered on Saturday, September 6, 2025, Youssouf described Eswatini’s independence anniversary as a moment of pride not only for the nation itself but also for the African continent as a whole.
“The African Union joins the people of Eswatini in celebrating the nation’s remarkable journey of sovereignty, unity, and resilience,” he said.
Tribute to Progress
The Chairperson paid tribute to the progress made by Eswatini in advancing peace, stability, and socio-economic development since attaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1968. He noted that the Kingdom’s efforts in preserving its rich cultural heritage alongside modern development stood as an example for other African nations.
“Eswatini has demonstrated how cultural identity can coexist with national transformation,” Youssouf remarked.
AU Solidarity
Reaffirming the African Union’s solidarity with the Kingdom, the Chairperson pledged the organisation’s continued partnership with the Government and people of Eswatini. He underlined that this support is part of the AU’s broader vision under Agenda 2063, which seeks to build a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated Africa.
“The AU will continue to walk alongside Eswatini in its development journey,” Youssouf assured, emphasising cooperation in areas of peace, governance, and inclusive growth.
Message of Hope
In his closing remarks, the AU Commission Chairperson wished Eswatini enduring peace, prosperity, and success as the Kingdom continues its journey of nation-building.
“On behalf of the African Union, I wish the Kingdom of Eswatini continued progress and stability. Happy Independence Day!” he declared.
The message from the African Union adds to a series of regional and international tributes being extended to Eswatini as the nation celebrates 57 years of independence.
