MBABANE – Eswatini-born actress, entrepreneur, and global media figure Amanda du Pont has made a bold and timely stand against gender-based violence (GBV) by donating E100 000 to the activist organisation Women for Change.
Her powerful contribution comes ahead of the highly anticipated Women’s National Shutdown, set for November 21, 2025, a mass movement designed to demand justice, safety, and the protection of women and girls across South Africa.
Women for Change, founded by Sabrina Walter, has called on women nationwide to turn their profile pictures purple and participate in a 15-minute standstill at noon on Friday. The shutdown, scheduled just before the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, is meant to honour the 15 women killed daily in South Africa and to demand that gender-based violence be declared a national disaster.
Amanda du Pont’s donation arrives at a pivotal moment, strengthening the organisation’s capacity to mobilise communities, intensify nationwide awareness campaigns, and expand survivor support initiatives. Her financial support will help fuel advocacy programmes, protest planning efforts, and public education initiatives aimed at confronting the country’s alarming GBV crisis.
In her message shared through Women for Change, Du Pont reaffirmed her solidarity with survivors and her determination to use her influence to amplify a movement that urgently needs national attention. Supporters have commended her for demonstrating leadership that goes beyond statements—by providing tangible resources for real impact.
Amanda du Pont, widely known for her standout roles in Skeem Saam and the Netflix series Shadow, has become one of Southern Africa’s most influential figures in entertainment. Beyond acting, she has excelled as a model, TV host, and entrepreneur through her internationally recognised skincare brand Lelive.
Her career foundation was built through formal training at the South African School of Motion Picture and Live Performance (AFDA) and later at the New York Film Academy, where she refined her craft. Today, she is celebrated not only for her achievements onscreen but also for her commitment to women’s empowerment, gender justice advocacy, and mental health awareness.
Her E100 000 donation reflects her long-standing dedication to uplifting women and confronting injustice. Many have described her gesture as “walking the talk” during one of the most critical turning points in the national fight against GBV.
