MANZINI – Athletics Eswatini has proudly announced a determined five-member delegation that will represent the Kingdom of Eswatini at the prestigious African Senior Championships, set to take place in Accra from 12–18 May 2026.
The national team is expected to depart the country on 09 May 2026, carrying the hopes and pride of Eswatini as they prepare to compete against Africa’s finest athletes on the continental stage.
The selected athletes include Mayibongwe Vilakati in the 800m, Manqoba Sangweni and Ncamiso Hlatshwako in the 5000m events, and Bongiwe Mahlalela who will showcase her speed in both the 100m and 200m races. The team reflects a strong balance of middle-distance, long-distance, and sprint talent, highlighting the growing depth of athletics in the country.
Guiding the squad is Coach and Team Manager Hamilton Mhlanga, who will be responsible for ensuring the athletes are fully prepared and supported throughout the championships.
In leadership developments, Athletics Eswatini President Zakhele Dlamini, also a member of the Confederation of African Athletics Council, will depart this evening to attend the CAA Council Meeting held alongside the championships. During his absence, Vice President Sifiso Mkoko will take up the role of Acting President.
Athletics Eswatini has expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and potential, wishing the athletes and officials safe travels and success as they proudly carry the Eswatini flag in Ghana.
The African Senior Championships remain a vital platform for showcasing talent, and Eswatini’s representatives are expected to gain valuable experience while aiming to deliver strong performances for the nation.
