MBABANE- The African Union Commission has bid farewell to Eswatini’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mahlaba Almon Mamba, following the completion of his tour of duty.
The development was announced by the African Union Commission in a September 2, 2026 readout following a meeting between Ambassador Mamba and AUC Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
The farewell meeting took place as Mamba concluded his diplomatic assignment representing the Kingdom of Eswatini in Ethiopia and at the continental body.
According to the AU Commission, Youssouf expressed his appreciation to Mamba for his “active and constructive engagement” in the work of the African Union, while also commending Eswatini for its continued commitment to the AU and the continental agenda.
The discussions also covered developments on the African continent, including the situation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, as well as other matters of common interest.
The AU Chairperson wished Mamba success in his future endeavours and expressed his readiness to continue working closely with Eswatini and Mamba’s successor in advancing the shared aspirations of the African continent.
Mamba’s departure marks the end of his tenure as Eswatini’s diplomatic representative in Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, a position through which he participated in continental diplomatic engagements on behalf of the Kingdom.
The AU’s recognition of his contribution comes at a time when the continental organisation continues to place emphasis on stronger member-state participation and engagement in addressing regional and continental challenges.
Eswatini’s government lists Mamba as the country’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, with the Kingdom maintaining a diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa.
The AU did not disclose when Mamba’s successor would formally assume the diplomatic responsibilities.
