EZULWINI– 2026 FNB Eswatini Challenge champion Austin Bautista from Australia walked away with E396 250 after completing a memorable week on the greens with victory at the Ezulwini Golf and Country Club yesterday.
Bautista, who was crowned champion at the conclusion of the fifth edition of the tournament, expressed his appreciation for Eswatini, describing the Kingdom as one of his favourite places to come and play golf.
Speaking after his victory, Bautista said winning the tournament allowed him to appreciate the experience and the beauty of the country, while also thanking FNB Eswatini, the tournament sponsors, Government representatives and everyone involved in staging the event.
“I really enjoy it. I want to thank everyone for what it takes to put on this golf tournament. It’s not an easy feat,” he said.
The champion singled out title sponsor FNB Eswatini for its continued support of the tournament, saying the backing shown by the bank was greatly appreciated.
He also thanked the Nomads for their continued support and praised the Sunshine Tour, saying he had come to enjoy travelling and playing at the different destinations on the tour.
For Bautista, Eswatini stood out among those destinations, particularly the scenic drive towards the golf course in the morning.
He described seeing the fog coming over the mountains as one of the most beautiful drives he has experienced, saying the scenery helped set the frame of mind for his round of golf.
The champion also praised the condition of the Ezulwini Golf and Country Club course, particularly considering the difficult weather conditions experienced earlier in the week.
“The golf course was in unbelievable condition. We had some tough weather going into it, and the fact that it was in perfect condition as we played, I was really happy, and the condition was amazing,” Bautista said.
Bautista further praised his fellow Sunshine Tour professionals, saying he enjoyed the competition and camaraderie among the players.
He said the ability to compete against one another while still joking and laughing together demonstrated what he described as the African way.
The victory capped a successful fifth edition of the FNB Eswatini Challenge, which brought together international professionals, local golfers and junior players, while also showcasing Eswatini as a destination for sport and tourism.
For Bautista, however, the triumph was more than the E396 250 prize money. It was also an opportunity to celebrate a tournament and a country he has grown to appreciate.
“I really do appreciate the support and what it goes into making this golf tournament happen,” he said.
