MBABANE – The Border to Border Cycle Tour has once again proven its growing popularity, drawing in a remarkable 196 entries for this year’s edition that took place over the weekend.
The event, which is celebrated annually in Eswatini continues to cement its place on the regional cycling calendar as it saw 165 cyclists take on various starting points across the country, including Lukhula, Manzini, Sikhuphe, and the Ngwenya Border Post. The Tour keeps getting bigger and better.
The most exciting part of the event was the 240km ride from Ngwenya to Lavumisa. More than 50 cyclists took on this tough route, including 30 international riders from South Africa ( KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and Mpumalanga), Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Mozambique. This shows that the tour is not only loved by locals, but is also starting to attract global attention.
Organizers are thrilled about the high number of participants. They say it is a big win for cycling in the country and proves that more people are interested in long-distance cycling.
“The Alphsz B2B Cycle Tour showed the world the beauty of Eswatini our friendly people, our stunning views, and the great spirit of our cyclists,” the organizers said in a statement. “We are already working on making next year’s tour even better, safer, and more fun.” reads the statement.
With this year’s success, the Border to Border Cycle Tour is becoming one of Eswatini’s top sporting and tourism events, bringing cyclists together to enjoy the ride through the beautiful landscapes of the Kingdom.
