MBABANE- In an increasingly interconnected world, the importance of cultural diversity within a single nation cannot be overstated.
The exchange of beliefs, traditions, and customs enriches societies, fostering understanding and harmony among diverse communities. This sentiment was beautifully embodied during the Culture Day celebration at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, themed “One Rhythm, Many Roots.”
On July 18, 2025, students from the Hotel and Event Management program led by example, hosting an event that showcased the vibrant tapestry of cultures represented within the university. Through various performances, discussions, and culinary delights, they emphasized the significance of embracing diversity and promoting cultural exchange.
The celebration featured an array of captivating performances that highlighted the richness of different cultures. From the energetic Mozambican dance to the graceful Chinese showcase and the traditional Swazi Umtsimba ceremony, each performance offered a glimpse into the unique heritage of its respective culture. These artistic expressions not only entertained but also served to educate attendees about the values and traditions embedded within each community.
Mnontfo Dlamini, coach of Nsingizini Hotspurs, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. His charisma and enthusiasm set the tone for the day, while his insights on the importance of cultural preservation resonated deeply with the audience. He emphasized that culture is a vital aspect of identity and should be cherished and passed down through generations.
Adding to the day’s vibrancy, popular cultural dancer Nhlanganiso Mapots Teabedze shared his experiences in using dance as a medium for cultural expression. His performance captivated the audience and highlighted how art can serve as a bridge, connecting people from different backgrounds. His enthusiasm for cultural exchange inspired many, showcasing the transformative power of the arts.
One of the most delightful aspects of Culture Day was the vibrant array of traditional dishes from across the globe. Limkokwing students curated a delicious journey through heritage, unity, and flavor, presenting a feast that celebrated culinary diversity. However, Nontsikelelo Gule shared that sourcing some of the dishes proved challenging, as many traditional ingredients are not readily available in Eswatini. Despite these difficulties, the students worked hard to bring authentic flavors to the event, demonstrating their commitment to cultural representation.
Attendees were treated to a variety of dishes, each telling its own story and representing the unique cultural background of its origin. This gastronomic experience fostered a deeper understanding of the significance of food in cultural identity and community bonding.
The students of Limkokwing University demonstrated the power of cultural diversity and the importance of mutual respect and understanding. By organizing such a comprehensive event, they showcased how different cultures can coexist harmoniously, enriching the social fabric of their community.
