KaLANG – Hundreds of jobs, increased local empowerment and major economic transformation are expected to come to KaLanga and surrounding communities as His Majesty King Mswati III’s mining development projects gather momentum.
The Chief said this during KaLanga Umphakatsi Thanksgiving Prayer Service on June 27, 2026.
Chief Jozane Maziya thanked His Majesty for bringing strategic mining investments to the area, saying the developments would create employment opportunities, stimulate local businesses and improve the livelihoods of emaSwati.
He described the projects as a significant milestone for KaLanga, noting that the community was already witnessing development that would have a lasting impact on future generations.
According to the Chief, the investments demonstrate His Majesty’s commitment to ensuring that the country’s natural resources contribute meaningfully to national development while creating opportunities for local communities.
Among the major developments is the KaLanga-Malindza Coal Mine, an estimated E200 million investment by WH Mining (Pty) Ltd in partnership with local and international investors. The open-cast anthracite coal mine, situated on Eswatini Nation Land under KaLanga Umphakatsi, is expected to create about 700 direct jobs and boost economic activity in the Lubombo Region.
In addition, Chief Jozane Maziya highlighted the Eswatini Electricity Company’s coal-powered thermal energy project through its subsidiary, the Eswatini Electricity Feedstock Company. The initiative includes the development of the Lubhuku Coal Mine and a thermal power station, initially expected to generate 300 megawatts, with future expansion planned.
He further noted that the project is expected to strengthen Eswatini’s energy security while creating between 700 and 1 000 direct jobs for emaSwati and reducing the country’s dependence on imported electricity.
Meanwhile, Chief Jozane Maziya welcomed the progress of the locally owned Magomba Coal Mine near Mpaka, describing it as a clear demonstration of local empowerment. The mine, wholly owned by emaSwati, is projected to create more than 400 direct jobs while producing high-grade anthracite coal for export markets.
He added that, collectively, these investments are positioning KaLanga as one of Eswatini’s emerging mining and industrial centres, attracting investment, creating employment and unlocking new business opportunities for surrounding communities.
Chief Jozane Maziya urged residents, particularly young people, to equip themselves with the necessary skills to take advantage of the employment and business opportunities arising from the projects.
Concluding his remarks, Chief Jozane Maziya encouraged the nation to continue giving thanks to God and supporting His Majesty’s development agenda, saying unity, prayer and hard work remain essential ingredients for sustained national growth and prosperity.
