MATSAPHA– Beyond the speeches, ceremonial displays and official proceedings, a warm exchange of greetings between Chief Justice Bheki Maphalala and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane captured the spirit of unity and cooperation that defined the 18th anniversary celebrations of His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS).
The two leaders were seen sharing a cordial handshake and smiles as dignitaries gathered at the HMCS Staff College in Matsapha for the landmark celebration, held under the theme, “Advancing Rehabilitation and Institutional Excellence Under His Majesty’s Leadership.”
Their interaction stood out as one of the notable moments of the day, reflecting the strong relationship between institutions that play a critical role in the administration of justice and national development.
The presence of the Chief Justice and the Justice Minister underscored the close collaboration between the judiciary, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and His Majesty’s Correctional Services in promoting the rule of law, advancing rehabilitation programmes and contributing to public safety.
Chief Justice Maphalala, appointed to lead the judiciary by His Majesty King Mswati III in 2015, continues to oversee the country’s court system and champion judicial excellence. Throughout his legal career, he has served at both the High Court and Supreme Court levels, earning recognition for his contribution to the development of the justice system in Eswatini.
Minister Prince Simelane, who was appointed Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in November 2023, has been instrumental in driving initiatives aimed at strengthening justice sector institutions and improving access to justice for emaSwati.
As leaders from government, the judiciary, security services and various sectors of society converged for the national event, the cordial interaction between the two officials served as a visible symbol of institutional cooperation and shared commitment to national progress.
The HMCS anniversary celebrations highlighted the institution’s achievements over the past 18 years and reaffirmed its commitment to rehabilitation, correctional excellence and the creation of safer communities under the leadership of His Majesty King Mswati III.
