MBABANE – The Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo emerged as one of the biggest winners at the Buy Eswatini Consumer Fair after scooping an exciting trip to Zanzibar during a raffle draw hosted by Leap Taxi App.
The winning moment, which quickly became one of the highlights of the event, drew excitement from exhibitors and consumers alike, adding a lively and memorable touch to an already successful Fair held on 1 May 2026 along Dr Sishayi Road.
Speaking afterwards, the minister shared in good humour that it was the first time in his life winning a prize in a competition, a moment that resonated with many attendees and further underscored the engaging atmosphere of the Fair.
Chairman briefs minister on fair success
Following the event, Chairman of A Peculiar People, Melusi Zox Dlamini, paid a courtesy visit to the minister to present a detailed report on the Fair’s success.
The meeting highlighted the Consumer Fair’s growing impact as a key platform for promoting local enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurship, while reinforcing the importance of supporting emaSwati products and services.
The minister commended A Peculiar People for successfully delivering what he described as a business event of national significance, noting that such initiatives play a critical role in strengthening the local economy and empowering entrepreneurs.
E-commerce platform set to transform local trade
During the engagement, Dlamini, accompanied by Leap Taxi App Director Vusani Matsebula, also presented the upcoming Made in Eswatini e-commerce platform.
The platform is expected to provide local businesses with broader market access, while making it easier for consumers to purchase locally produced goods.
Discussions further explored ongoing consultations with manufacturers, entrepreneurs and industry leaders aimed at developing a clear and inclusive definition of “Made in Eswatini”, which will help shape standards and strengthen the identity of local products.
‘Choose Local’ campaign to boost awareness
A Peculiar People also revealed plans to launch a national “Choose Local” multimedia campaign designed to promote the affordability, quality and economic value of buying locally made products.
The campaign is expected to strengthen consumer confidence in emaSwati brands and encourage greater participation in the local economy.

Leap Taxi App has partnered with the Consumer Fair from 2026 to 2028, positioning itself as a proudly African innovation focused on convenience, safety and accessibility.
The partnership highlights the role of collaboration in driving economic growth and supporting local initiatives.
Landmark success for 2026 Fair
The 2026 Buy Eswatini Consumer Fair attracted more than 300 exhibitors and over 2,500 consumers, transforming Dr Sishayi Road into a vibrant marketplace celebrating local excellence, culture, food and innovation.

- More than 60 per cent of merchants reporting complete sell-outs
- Strong consumer engagement and networking opportunities
Appreciation for partners and stakeholders
Chairman Dlamini expressed appreciation to the minister for supporting the Fair and championing local enterprise.
He also acknowledged the Mbabane Municipality for hosting the event and supporting entrepreneurship initiatives.
In a celebratory moment, Matsebula presented the Zanzibar itinerary to the minister and also wished Dlamini a happy birthday.
