MBABANE – From lockdown stitches to a growing name in Eswatini’s fashion scene, Crochet by Selu is now weaving its way into the spotlight after earning two nominations at the Eswatini Consumers’ Choice Awards 2026.

The local slow-fashion brand has been nominated for Consumers’ Favourite Fashion & Apparel Brand and Consumers’ Favourite Artisan Product, recognising its handmade craftsmanship and growing impact in the local creative industry.

For co-founder and director Seluliwe Mdluli, the double nomination is more than an award opportunity; it is a reflection of how far a passion project has travelled.

“Honestly, I was really excited and grateful. To be nominated in two categories, especially through the support and recognition of consumers, means so much to me,” Mdluli said.

Crochet by Selu was established in 2021 during the COVID-19 lockdown, when what began as a hobby gradually developed into a business. Mdluli saw an opportunity to transform her love for crochet and creativity into a brand producing high-quality, handmade fashion.

The Eswatini-based slow-fashion label creates ready-to-wear and custom-made crochet clothing, with each piece requiring time, skill and careful attention.

“What makes our products unique is the attention to detail. We focus on quality, texture, functionality and creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also durable. Every piece is handmade,” she said.

Mdluli said customers and the wider creative community have played an important role in the brand’s growth through purchases, recommendations, social media support, collaborations, shoots, events and fashion platforms.

She believes a win would further strengthen the brand while shining a light on local handmade fashion.

“Every vote would be a vote for handmade fashion, local talent and the growth of the creative industry in Eswatini,” Mdluli said.

She encouraged consumers to vote for Crochet by Selu in both categories and expressed gratitude to Made in Eswatini and Apecular for creating platforms that recognise and promote local creatives.
