MANZINI – Livestock farmers in Mpini, Mhawu, Lusitini and Ngudzeni are set to benefit from improved access to livestock health services following the handover of the E430 000 Mpini Dip Tank in the Shiselweni Region.

The facility is expected to strengthen efforts to protect livestock against external parasites, support animal productivity and safeguard the livelihoods of households that depend on farming.

Located under Ngudzeni Inkhundla, the dip tank was officially handed over on October 15, 2026. It will serve livestock owners from the four communities, providing shared infrastructure to support routine dipping and better management of livestock health.

The handover was officiated by Nhlanhla Motsa, Acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, who represented Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka.

Speaking during the handover, Motsa commended Government for making the project possible and praised Micro Projects for working closely with community members to ensure its successful completion.

He urged beneficiaries to take good care of the facility, stressing that prompt repairs would prevent minor damage from developing into costly problems that could affect the continued delivery of dipping services.

“I applaud all of you for making this project a success and therefore urge that you take good care of it by avoiding further damage if something gets broken. This will help curb further costs that come with fixing an extensively damaged structure,” he said.

For livestock farmers, maintaining animal health is essential to protecting their investment and sustaining agricultural production. External parasites, including ticks, can affect animal welfare, reduce productivity and contribute to disease transmission. Regular dipping, when carried out appropriately, helps control these parasites and supports healthier herds.

By serving four communities, Mpini Dip Tank is expected to improve access to this important livestock management service, while providing a shared resource for farmers working to protect their animals and sustain their livelihoods.

The project also reflects cooperation between Government, Micro Projects and local communities in delivering infrastructure that responds to farmers’ needs.

With an investment exceeding E430 000, the facility represents an important addition to livestock service infrastructure in Ngudzeni Inkhundla. Its long-term contribution to animal health and farming livelihoods will depend on responsible use and the commitment of beneficiaries to keep it functional.

The handover marks a positive step towards strengthening livestock support services in the four communities, with the potential to help farmers maintain healthier herds and protect the economic value of their livestock.
