PIGG’S PEAK— The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has engaged Parliamentarians at Pigg’s Peak Hotel, with discussions focusing on strengthening understanding of the Commission’s mandate and improving public access to electoral information.
The engagement provided a platform for the EBC to present its work, functions and operations to Parliamentarians, while lawmakers raised questions and recommendations aimed at strengthening the Commission’s effectiveness and efficiency.
One of the key issues raised was the representation of the four women Members of Parliament elected through the regional representation system.
Parliamentarians sought clarity on how the four regional women MPs are elected, as well as their specific roles and responsibilities within Parliament.
The issue prompted discussion on the electoral process surrounding the regional representation of women and the functions of the elected MPs.
The EBC acknowledged the concerns raised and indicated that it would further consider the matter with a view to providing clarity and addressing areas that may require further attention.
