MATFUNTINI – The completion of the first pilot water supply project by Engineers In Action (EIA) has brought clean water to Matfuntini Primary School in the Northern Hhohho Region.
The construction of the borehole which now ensures a steady supply of clean water was officially handed over on Tuesday (9 July 2024) at the school. The EIA group together with Microprojects presented the borehole to the community. Acting Director of Education Richard Dlamini also attended the event, representing the Ministry of Education and Training.
Dlamini highlighted the crucial role of clean water in schools for maintaining hygiene, sanitation and in preventing waterborne diseases.
He expressed his gratitude to the EIA group and Microprojects for providing this essential resource to the school and community.
“Microprojects is the implementing partner for the Ministry of Education and training in helping the ministry attain its goals and objectives through capital projects. As our implementing partner for over a decade, we were not aware that they were going an extra mile of getting us another partner by the name of Engineers In Action,” Dlamini explained.
The eventful ceremony featured performances by pupils who expressed their gratitude through poems and traditional dances. These performances celebrated the positive impact of the borehole in their lives.
Mayiwane Member of Parliament (MP) Sicelo Dlamini noted the entire community will benefit from the borehole, as everyone would have access to the clean water it provides.
Set forward by the United Nations (UN) in 2015, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 states that by 2030, the UN should expand and capacity building support to developing countries in water-and sanitation related activities and programmes.
