MBABANE – Talented Eswatini trio Emagagu is poised to release their highly anticipated single titled ‘Dukanezwe’ this Friday.
The track, which will be available on all major digital streaming platforms, is set to resonate deeply with listeners, particularly those navigating the challenges of modern life in search of better opportunities.
In an exclusive interview with Percy P, one of the group members, he elaborated on the inspiration and thematic depth of ‘Dukanezwe.’ “This song is an African Trap anthem that captures the essence of struggle and resilience,” he explained. “It tells the story of an individual who leaves their home in pursuit of employment in a bustling city, only to find themselves in a dire situation where they can’t even afford to return home.
They are left grappling with the harsh reality of their choices, and the emotional weight of not being able to support their family financially.”
Percy P emphasized that the narrative is one that many can relate to, particularly young black men striving to uplift themselves and their families. “The lyrics speak to the heart of the struggle faced by so many. It’s a reflection of their experiences, their dreams, and the harsh realities that often accompany the pursuit of a better life,” he said.
A distinctive feature of Emagagu’s music is their commitment to cultural authenticity. “The lyrics are 100 per cent in SiSwati, as we always aim to represent SINTFU. Our primary audience is the youth in the southern part of Africa, and we want to ensure our music speaks directly to them,” Percy P noted.
The creative process behind ‘Dukanezwe’ was both collaborative and inspired. “Working with DJ Citie and Milton B on the production was seamless. The beat itself demanded an African touch, which guided our songwriting process. We wanted to create something that would resonate with Africans, and I believe we achieved that,” he shared. Remarkably, the song was written and recorded in a single day, showcasing the group’s synergy and creative flow.
In addition to the audio release, fans can look forward to a visually captivating music video that will accompany the song. Shot by Mega Sound Studios in the scenic locations of Fairview and Madonsa, the video aims to enhance the storytelling aspect of the song, bringing its themes to life through powerful imagery and artistic expression. “We are excited for our fans to see the video, as it complements the song and adds another layer to the narrative we are telling,” Percy P stated.
