BHUNYA – From personal hardship to growing international readership, 25-year-old Nokwanda Siphesihle Nkambule from Bhunya is steadily establishing herself as an emerging literary voice from Eswatini, building a global audience through emotionally driven fiction and digital storytelling platforms.
Nkambule is currently pursuing a qualification in Nature Conservation at the University of Mpumalanga, while simultaneously developing her writing career across international platforms including Amazon, Goodreads, and Wattpad.
Her writing journey began in January 2025 during a difficult personal season that included stepping away from university studies and facing depression. However, she describes this period as the foundation of her creative growth and renewed purpose.
Nkambule says writing became a source of healing and direction during her lowest moments.
“Writing became my refuge. It gave me hope when I felt lost and allowed me to express emotions that I struggled to put into words,” she said.
She added that rejection in the early stages of pursuing traditional publishing did not discourage her but instead strengthened her determination.
“Every rejection became another reason to work harder and believe even more in my dream. Those rejections did not stop my journey—they shaped it,” she said.
Turning to independent publishing, Nkambule began sharing her work on Wattpad, where her Crave series—Crave: Monroe & Takahashi and Crave: Veil of Desire—has accumulated approximately 10 000 reads. She is also developing an ongoing story titled Neighbors, which continues to engage readers through regular updates and interaction.
Her growing visibility on Goodreads and Amazon has further strengthened her position as an emerging writer reaching an international audience. A major milestone came with the release of her debut novel, In Another Life: A Pact Whispered in Moonlight, published on 8 May 2026 and later listed on Goodreads on 10 May 2026.
Nkambule says the achievement marked a defining moment in her journey.
“Seeing my work published internationally was a dream come true and a reminder that difficult seasons do not last forever,” she said.
Her writing is influenced by mystery, gothic fiction, romance, and suspense, with a focus on emotionally rich storytelling that explores themes of love, sacrifice, destiny, and hope. She is currently working on two upcoming books, As It Was and Would You: You Don’t Need Wings to Be an Angel.
Nkambule will also be launching her debut novel, In Another Life, at a special event scheduled for Saturday, 27 June 2026 at Bhunya Hall from 11:00 am to 13:30 pm.
The launch is expected to bring together notable guests, including former Speaker Petros Mavimbela, with the President of the Eswatini Literacy Writing Foundation serving as Master of Ceremonies. The event will feature a formal book signing, media interviews, and a dedicated media backdrop area designed for broadcast coverage.
Nkambule said the launch represents more than a personal milestone, but also an opportunity to inspire and open doors for young aspiring writers in Eswatini.
“My journey is rooted in local resilience—turning a financial setback that forced me to temporarily leave university into a creative triumph,” she said. “My goal is to use this platform to open doors for other young, aspiring Swazi writers and creators.”
She expressed hope that the event will highlight the importance of youth creativity, literary development, and storytelling in national growth.
From Bhunya to global digital platforms, Nkambule’s story continues to reflect the rise of a young writer building a meaningful international audience through fiction rooted in resilience, imagination, and hope.
