MBABANE – The Kingdom of Eswatini’s finest voices are ready to conquer the international stage, and they’ve got one mission: bring it home!

In an atmosphere brimming with pride and excitement, Minister of Sports, Culture, and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima rallied the nation’s beloved choirs during a heartfelt send-off ceremony.

The event, held at the Ministry of Sports, was nothing short of a celebration of Eswatini’s musical prowess, as four powerhouse ensembles prepare to showcase their vocal magic at the Tiro Mpane Choral Music Competition in Pretoria, South Africa this weekend (December 14-15, 2024).

The choirs taking the spotlight are none other than the Emmanuel Methodist Choir, Mbabane Methodist Choir, His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir, and the Royal Eswatini Police Services Choir. Adding extra charm to the affair, the Mbabane Methodists have been specially invited as the guest choir, a prestigious nod to their exceptional talent.

Dressed to impress and voices tuned to perfection, the choirs were encouraged to raise the Eswatini flag high. With inspiring words that sparked fire in the hearts of the singers, Minister Nzima proclaimed:

“Today marks a significant moment not only for you but for the Kingdom of Eswatini. Sing with your hearts, represent us with dignity, and let the world feel the power and beauty of Eswatini’s choral excellence.”

The minister’s powerful rallying cry, “umjeka awuhuliswa phasi!” (the flag must not fall), captured the spirit of the send-off, a testament to how much this competition means for the country.

The send-off was attended by an impressive lineup of dignitaries, including Sihle Gumbi, President of the Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCAC), and Stanley Dlamini, CEO of the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture. Their presence underscored the national importance of choral music, a tradition woven deeply into the cultural fabric of Eswatini.

Minister Nzima also took the opportunity to acknowledge the unsung heroes behind the scenes, thanking the Eswatini National Choral Music Association for their dedication and tireless efforts in elevating the art of choral singing to its current heights.

With their bags packed and songs ready, the choirs carry not just sheet music and harmonies, but the hopes and dreams of a nation. From the delicate high notes to the powerful basslines, these voices embody the soul of Eswatini, a sound that promises to captivate Pretoria and leave the world wanting more.

As they embark on this journey, one thing is certain: Eswatini will be listening, cheering, and waiting for the return of their heroes. Will they hit the high notes of victory? If the passion and preparation on display are anything to go by, Pretoria is about to experience a musical masterpiece.

The message is clear: Fly high, sing proud, and bring it home!
