PIGGS PEAK – Government and key stakeholders have taken another step towards strengthening Eswatini’s public health preparedness and response systems through a one-day validation workshop on the Eswatini CDC Legal Mapping and Stakeholder Engagement Report.
The workshop, held at the UN House Conference Room, was convened by the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Eswatini Centre for Disease Control (CDC), and brought together stakeholders from different sectors, including the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development.
The gathering provided an opportunity for stakeholders to assess and validate the report, with particular focus on its accuracy, completeness, legal interpretations and proposed recommendations. Participants also deliberated on areas requiring revision and discussed the way forward towards the establishment of the Eswatini CDC.
Through presentations, group discussions and breakout validation sessions, participants examined the report’s key findings and considered practical actions that could help strengthen the country’s institutional and legal framework for public health emergencies.
The establishment of a strong CDC is expected to enhance coordination and preparedness in responding to public health threats while strengthening national systems for disease surveillance, prevention and emergency response.
The participation of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development underscored the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration and coordinated national planning in addressing issues that directly affect the country’s development and the wellbeing of its people.
The workshop further provided a platform for stakeholders to contribute their expertise and perspectives, ensuring that the proposed legal and institutional framework is comprehensive and responsive to Eswatini’s public health needs.
As stakeholders work towards consolidating the recommendations from the validation process, the initiative represents an important step in building a more resilient and coordinated public health system for the Kingdom of Eswatini.
