MBABANE – Eswatini and Tanzania are exploring avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation in tourism, education, agriculture and politics following a meeting between Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini and Tanzanian Ambassador to Eswatini Hamad Khamis Hamad.
The meeting, held at the Private and Cabinet Office, provided an opportunity for the two sides to discuss matters of mutual interest and identify areas where cooperation between the two countries could be enhanced.
The two countries are fellow members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU), providing a platform for closer collaboration on bilateral and regional matters.
According to Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli, the discussions covered tourism, education, agriculture and politics, with regional and political cooperation also receiving attention.
The discussions come against the backdrop of renewed diplomatic engagement between Eswatini and Tanzania following the accreditation of Ambassador Hamad earlier this year.
On August 6, 2026, His Majesty King Mswati III accepted an invitation from Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan to undertake a State visit to Tanzania.
During the occasion at Lozitha Palace, the King welcomed the invitation and said Tanzania was a sister country with which Eswatini shared common priorities and development challenges.
The King also highlighted Tanzania’s progress in tourism, saying previous visits had provided Eswatini with lessons and ideas that could be shared between the two countries.
Ambassador Hamad had invited the King to experience Tanzania’s tourism attractions, including the Great Migration in the Serengeti ecosystem and Zanzibar’s cultural and historical heritage.
The latest discussions between the Prime Minister and the ambassador also come as Eswatini assumes the Chairmanship of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, placing regional political cooperation among the areas of engagement between the two countries.
