MBABANE – Members of Parliament observed a moment of silence in honour of the late Minister of Home Affairs, Her Royal Highness Princess Lindiwe, at the opening of Monday afternoon’s House of Assembly sitting.
Speaker of the House of Assembly Jabulani Mabuza said Princess Lindiwe was someone Parliament had worked with and conveyed condolences to Their Majesties, the Royal Family and her relatives on behalf of Parliament, the Executive and Members of Parliament.
Mabuza said Parliament stood with the bereaved family during the difficult period, praying that God would give them strength. He thanked MPs for joining the family in mourning and welcomed them to the House.
Princess Lindiwe passed away following a short illness while receiving medical treatment locally. She was accorded a State Memorial Service at Jesus Calls Worship Centre in Matsapha on September 25, followed by a State Funeral at her marital home in Sidvokodvo the following day.
The Speaker also urged MPs to remain committed to serving the nation and attend parliamentary sittings unless they have a valid and reported reason for absence.
He said the Executive should also attend Parliament, not only when matters directly involving them were being discussed.
The sitting’s Order of the Day includes the tabling of reports and regulations, questions for oral answers and private members’ motions.
