MBABANE – In what might come as good news to members of the public, Eswatini Tuberculosis (TB) cases have decreased by 75 percent.
This was revealed by Minister of Health, Mduduzi Matsebula, who had attended the World TB Day Commemoration, which was hosted by the National TB Control Program at KaNdinda, under Ntondozi Constituency in the Manzini Region. The theme for this year was ‘Yes We Can End TB. Commit. Invest. Deliver.’ During his speech, Minister Matsebula highlighted the remarkable achievements made in the fight against tuberculosis.
Minister Matsebula stated that the special day, which is commemorated globally on the 24th of March each year, serves as a reminder of the long and difficult journey that the country has endured in the battle against tuberculosis (TB).
He mentioned that, according to the Global TB Report 2024, Eswatini has made significant strides in combating TB. The report indicated that the number of newly infected TB cases had declined substantially, from over 15,000 new cases in 2011 to approximately 4,300 in 2023, reflecting a 75% decrease.
As he commemorated World TB Day 2025, Minister Matsebula reaffirmed the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini’s commitment to providing comprehensive health care in order to ensure universal health coverage for all.
Meanwhile, Minister Matsebula visited Bhalekane Clinic to assess the progress of the ongoing Dental and Medical Outreach, an initiative led by the Mbabane Rotary Club and the Ministry of Health. He was accompanied by former Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini and Paul Dlamini, the former Deputy Prime Minister and current Licoco Chairman.
The event featured various entertainment performances to enhance the day’s activities. Additionally, the Minister toured several healthcare service stations, engaging with medical experts and members of the public who had come to seek assistance.
