LOBAMBA – His Majesty King Mswati III has announced that Eswatini will get a new 40 thousand stadium.
The King was speaking during the half time of the Ingwenyama Cup pitting Green Mamba and Nsingizini Hotspurs.
“It is a beautiful day as we have gathered through sports. It is clear that Emaswati need a new stadium. Designers have already started working on it. I don’t mean to say we will expand or renovate this stadium (Somhlolo National Stadium) but we will construct a new one,” said the King much to the applaus of the people.
The King was asked by journalists on how he thought the country could improve in football, produce quality players who will compete at the highest international level such as the world cup.
In response, the King noted that construction of the new stadium will play a vital role in equipping players who will assist the country qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.
“It is important that as a country, we qualify for big global tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup,” he said.
On his brief remarks, the King noted the stadium was important to also host cultural events and for national celebrations such as the 40/58 celebrations where the King commemorated 40 years on the Throne and celebrated his 58th birthday.
Him Majesty also took the opportunity to wish all mothers a Happy Mothers’ Day. He noted that mother’s were very important in life as all those who had attended the finals of the Ingwenyama Cup at Somhlolo National Stadium were born from mothers.
The King wished the people at the stadium a good day and said they must enjoy the football game.
The Ingwenyama Cup is a unique football competition in the Kingdom that blends sports with Eswatini’s rich culture.
The Ingwenyama Cup, sponsored by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) comes with a ticket for the winning team to compete at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup.
