GENEVA Eswatini is among Commonwealth member states expected to engage in high-level discussions on cancer prevention, diagnosis and care during the inaugural Commonwealth Health Coordination Forum (CHCF), which is set to commence on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79).

According to information shared by health authorities, the forum brings together senior health officials who form part of national delegations attending the World Health Assembly. The meeting is being convened under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Cancer in the Commonwealth,” with a focus on strengthening collaboration and accelerating responses to the growing burden of cancer across member countries.

Health officials indicated that the forum seeks to facilitate meaningful engagement on strategies to respond to the urgent and escalating cancer burden affecting populations across Commonwealth regions. Discussions are expected to focus on improving prevention measures, strengthening early diagnosis systems, enhancing access to treatment and care, and addressing inequalities in cancer outcomes.

Eswatini is expected to use the platform to share both its achievements and challenges in the fight against cancer, particularly in areas relating to prevention, diagnosis and patient care. The country is also anticipated to exchange experiences and best practices with other member states as part of efforts to improve national responses to non-communicable diseases.

The inaugural forum comes at a time when cancer continues to pose a growing public health challenge globally, with many countries seeking stronger partnerships and coordinated action to improve healthcare systems and patient outcomes.

The 79th World Health Assembly, convened annually by the World Health Organization, is expected to bring together delegates from member states to deliberate on pressing global health priorities and policy frameworks.
